FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the assessment and treatment of conditions related to the soft tissue and joints of the body, including muscles, connective tissues, tendons and ligaments. Massage therapy is used in the prevention and rehabilitation of physical dysfunction, treatment and alleviation of discomfort associated with every day occupational stresses, chronic pain conditions and muscular over-use.

Who Can Receive Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy should only be provided by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). An RMT is a primary healthcare provider in Ontario. Anyone may visit an RMT of their choice and a referral or prescription is NOT required to receive treatment.

To ensure I’m able to provide the safest treatment possible, please ensure your confidential health history form is completed accurately and to the best of your ability before your treatment.

A thorough intake and assessment will be completed prior to your massage to rule out any possible contraindications and determine whether massage therapy is an appropriate treatment for your needs.

Is Massage Therapy Covered by OHIP?

Massage therapy is not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP); however, many Extended Health Care (EHC) plans will cover all or part of the services provided by an RMT.

Some EHC benefits and plans may require a referral from a primary physician in order to cover the costs associated with massage therapy. Please check with your individual group insurance plan first if you intend to submit massage therapy costs for reimbursement.

Will you submit invoices to my insurance company for reimbursement?

This is called Direct Billing and is not a service I provide to patients. After each massage treatment you pay me directly then I provide an e-receipt for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What methods of payment do you accept?

  • Cash
  • E-Transfer

Autodeposit has been setup to expedite E-transfers. Payment is due at the time of service.
